Welcome to The Team

custom magnetic shields September 9, 2018

As we draw near to our 30th year in business, we remain committed to always looking for ways to grow and improve. There is perhaps no better way to do this, than to continue to build our team of dedicated, talented employees. This month, we are proud to welcome Rob Burnham, whose experience and expertise in the area of mechanical engineering will contribute yet another layer of success to MuShield’s sustained prominence as a worldwide leader in the manufacture of custom magnetic shields, precision sheet metal fabrication and hydroforming.

We sat down with Rob to ask him a few questions that would allow us to get to know him a bit better. Being the genuinely nice fellow that he is, he agreed to the idea of letting us share this brief Q&A so that you can get to know Rob as well.

Without further ado, we would like to introduce the newest member of the MuShield and custom magnetic shields family, Rob Burnham – mechanical engineer.

Rob, you’re the newest member of the MuShield team. What excites you about the opportunity?

I look forward to learning and getting experience on equipment I have never used before. I always enjoy learning new ways to build things.

What led you to MuShield?

I was looking for a company that had the will and potential for growth and a vision for the future. I also wanted to find a place that would have the personnel to help me grow as an engineer.

Where do your interests in manufacturing / magnetic shielding lie? What got you interested in the industry?

I came from a progressive stamping house and I was looking for a company that worked with sheet metal. I have never worked with electronic shielding but sheet metal is sheet metal. I also enjoy the manufacturing engineering side of it.

You’re a mechanical engineer by trade. Was there a moment or experience that led you to try your hand at engineering?

I took a test in 6th grade and I matched Engineer 9/9. I have always enjoyed building things as a kid and math and science were my strong points in school. So it was the natural course for me to take. I picked mechanical engineer because it covers a little of everything, civil, electrical, it’s the glue that holds everything together.

What’s the best part of your job?

Well it has only been 2-3 weeks but so far it’s been great. The people I work with are helpful and willing to teach.

What do you enjoy about the challenges associated with making sure a part is brought to complete fruition?

The nice thing about low volume manufacturing is the quick reward you get from completing a job. Two weeks start to finish allows you to see the design work come to life and give feedback on what you can do differently. This also allows for small changes in processes and procedures to show results fast too.

How does MuShield set you up to be successful at your job? What pieces of technology or other tools set them apart in your mind?

The fact that I had a new computer on day 1 stood out to me. Not to mention the software was up to date too. I also like how they have incorporated 3D printing into their manufacturing process. I have a good background in 3D printing and I use it a lot to aid in my design work.

When you’re not at work you can be found _________?

When I am not working I tend to work around my house. I also have two young boys that occupy my time.

What’s one thing you can’t live without?

I would have to go with the internet. Much of what I do, in both job and free time, depend on it.
