In 2003 MuShield was contracted to help facilitate the development of a magnetic shield that aided in the proper operative function of the artificial heart – known as the Jarvik Heart Pump – as it communicated with electronics to filter and deliver blood throughout the body. Another example of MuShield’s contribution to the medical device industry can be found in catheters medical professionals use during procedures, which provide 3D mapping – enabling doctors to make more informed and concise diagnoses. These catheters include mumetal magnetic shield components produced here in our Londonderry, NH facility. Without the specced out magnetic shielding, results could come back inconclusive or inaccurate due to electromagnetic interference (EMI), which is obviously a non starter in any medical device.
