The Machinery

The MuShield Company continues to invest within itself, not only in machinery, but in personnel. In the last 5 years we have seen our precision machining requirements increase as tolerances get tighter and tooling and fixtures become far more difficult to machine. To keep costs and lead times low, we have purchased machinery that allows us to produce most tools and fixtures in house that are necessary to produce the challenging magnetic shields and piece parts that our customers demand from us.

But of course, it is more than just the machines, we need the talent to program to develop the intricate programs and ultimately produce the tool or piece part that will be delivered to our customers.

We can machine a variety of materials such as magnetic shielding materials per ASTM A753 Alloy Type 4 and 2, Aluminum, Stainless, Tool Steels, Tungsten, Inconel, Copper, Tantalum, Brass, Plastics and more.

Distribution

MuShield has high permeability magnetic shielding materials per ASTM A753 Alloy Type 4 readily available in coil and sheet stock and can distribute both small amounts for R&D or one off projects, all the way to enough material to supply a production run.

Coil is available 12” wide and in thicknesses of .004”, .006” and ,010”.

If you are looking for something thicker, we offer sheets measuring 30” x 120” in the following thicknesses: .014”
.020”
.025”
.030”
.040”
.050”
.062”
.080”
.125”

With low minimum orders and quick turnaround times, let MuShield be your choice for magnetic shielding raw materials.

Welding

Clean welding is a critical process when fabricating magnetic shields and other piece parts within our shop. The fully penetrated welds not only allow for structural health of the parts, but also allow for the expected magnetic shielding attenuation our customers’ specific design requires. Our welders have decades worth of experience underneath their weld masks, fusing High Permeability Magnetic Shielding, Stainless Steel, Aluminum, Inconel, Cryoperm and plenty of other standard and exotic metals, ranging in thicknesses of .004” all that way up to .250”.

Our welders are certified to AWS D17.1 and utilize MIG, TIG, Stick and Laser Welding technologies. Recently we have brought on board and IPG LightWELD hand held laser welder. The LightWELD is 2-10x faster than standard ARC welding and is simple to use. Most operators only need a days to train on the machine versus weeks months of practice using a welding gun.

Added benefits from the IPG LightWELD includes cleaner welds, a localized beam that melts and heats a precise area, as opposed to the whole piece which limits distortion and minimal post welding processing.

Brake Department

Precision sheet metal bending and forming is the foundation of what we do here at MuShield. Our forming and brake department is equipped with some of the latest and greatest technologies and machines to ensure that we can supply our customers with precision sheet metal parts that fall within tight tolerances and are repeatable from lot to lot.

Our break and forming department features the following equipment:

Accupress Press Brakes

  • 4ft, 25 Ton Press Brake featuring 2 axis control
  • 8 ft, 50 Ton press Brake featuring 2 axis control
  • 8ft, 75 Ton Press Brake featuring multi axis control

Triform by Beckwood Deep draw Hydroform

  • Form challenging geometries with lot to lot repeatability and tight tolerances
  • 16” max blank diameter
  • 7” max draw depth
  • 15,000 PSI max

MuShield has been ISO 9001 certified for the past decade and has kept up to that standard ever since. We are a trusted magnetic shielding source for the nation’s top defense companies, and are proud to be ITAR registered and compliant. ITAR designated drawings are kept under lock and key and we play our part in keeping our troops and country safe.

Our major commitment to ensuring dimensional quality and stability is demonstrated by the investment utilization of our Miutoyo QSL 1020 Quick Scope Vision Measurement System and Sheffield Discovery III CMM to check and record each dimension found on every magnetic shield we produce. Also, we maintain a host of regularly calibrated inspection tools and equipment for in-process inspection.

When magnetic testing is required on the mumetal magnetic shields we produce, we use a battery of state-of-the-art magnetic shielding measuring metrology in our dedicated lab. In short, MuShield has the best quality, inspection and testing equipment available in the industry. Contact us to learn more.

Quality

Quality is of the utmost importance, so we have deployed some of the best technology onto our shop floor for in process inspections and into our labs for final and first article inspections (FAI), With our two Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), one with scanning capabilities for more accurate profile measurement, we can inspect magnetic shields and other piece parts within a 28” x 40” x 24” envelope.

Keyence IM 8030T Vision System, with a max table size of 8” x 12” for checking flat patterns or part silhouettes.

Keyence XM Handheld CMM for in process, in machine checks.

Over 300 shop hand tools to check dimensions and ensure compliance that are calibrated on a consistent basis.

Custom fixturing and gauging built in house for otherwise lengthy or impossible to measure dimensions.
