The MuShield Company has been in existence for over 50 years. It started in the late 1940's as a small internal division of the James Millen Company located in Malden, Massachusetts.

They built Shielding for their own products along with producing job shop requirements for other Companies in need of Magnetic Shielding. In 1972 this shielding division of The James Millen Company was sold to Bomco Inc. of Gloucester, Massachusetts. Bomco established an internal Division within their metal forming job shop, The New England Metal Spinning Company and made this MuShield's new home. It was here that MuShield was given its name. Bomco and The New England Metal Spinning Company were precision metal forming job shops catering to the aircraft and aerospace industries. It was here that MuShield's current Principals, David Grilli and Bob Joy first worked together as Sales Manager and Engineering Manager for the New England Metal Spinning and MuShield Divisions.

In 1986, Bomco, in an attempt to consolidate it's work force and improve on manufacturing efficiencies, decided to bring all 3 divisions under one roof and relocate them to the Gloucester, Massachusetts facility.

When facility space issues arose during this consolidation, Bob and David approached the President of Bomco Pete Banks, and suggested that they purchase the MuShield Division. The proposal was well received through out the Corporation and it was decided that MuShield would be sold and operate for the first time as a stand alone Corporation. In June of 1986 Bob Joy and David Grilli formed The MuShield Company Inc.

Maintaining relationships in business is important, Bomco today remains both as customer and vendor.

Armed with their Aerospace and Magnetic Shielding back grounds, Bob and Dave implemented all of the quality and production engineering systems required to manufacture for the likes of Boeing and General Electric Aerospace into the MuShield operation. "This served to put us ahead of our competition in the manufacturing of precision shielding. Our quality and process controls are second to none." When we build a shield today, the process and product will be the same if we build it one year or five years later. The need for predictable performance is required in both the Aerospace and Magnetic Shielding Industries. The early years benefited from the contributions and support of Arthur Joy and Arthur Courchene. Both worked tirelessly to insure MuShield became a success. Bob and Dave will be forever grateful to both these men.

Sales and Application Engineering has developed through the efforts of David and a team of in-house marketing and engineering professionals to make MuShield the most progressive and growing Magnetic Shielding Company in World. MuShield was the first shielding house with an Internet Site, and the first shielding company to be ISO certified. Staying progressive with technology, Dave has added Magnetic Testing and Finite Element Analysis Capability that allows us to address any shielding problem with the ability to test the solutions.

Manufacturing and Production under the guidance of Bob and his team of Production management professionals, Process engineers and programmers have grown MuShield capabilities far beyond the early days of manual press brakes and milling machines. This includes state of the art computer controlled laser cutting and machining, hydraulic turret punching, bending, milling and turning, rotary and seam welding, fully programmable hydrogen heat treating along with Production Control Software systems. In addition they have developed a long term well trained and committed production work force. MuShield can now compete for any shielding manufacturing requirement and maintains a strong effort to stay ahead with technology and increase in-house capabilities. MuShield builds capital investments in machinery and technology as its top priority in its annual budget. This allows us to be fast, accurate and on time.

As a stand alone Company, MuShield has experienced continues', controlled growth. They have achieved this by subscribing to the "One Customer and one Employee" at a time philosophy. This has allowed us to prioritize and develop both these critical relationships. The result is a well educated, experienced and dedicated work force, and a long standing reputation with our customers for high quality, service and cost effective shielding.
